The Friend of Sinners!

I'm going to cheat for this post and steal some great lyrics from the hymn book! We sang it at my church today. I appreciate that the verses are written with words that are so simple and realistic and the tune is also quite pretty, especially played on the piano. I highlighted my favourite lines/stanzas. I hope you find comfort in the words, the way I have! ~Laura

Jesus, What a Friend for Sinners

Jesus! What a friend for sinners!
Jesus! Lover of my soul;
Friends may fail me, foes assail me,
He, my Savior, makes me whole.
*
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
Hallelujah! What a friend!
Saving, helping, keeping, loving,
He is with me to the end.
*
Jesus!
What a strength in weakness!
Let me hide myself in Him.
Tempted, tried, and sometimes failing,
He, my strength, my victory wins.
*
Jesus! What a help in sorrow!
While the billows o’er me roll,
Even when my heart is breaking,
He, my comfort
, helps my soul.
*
Jesus! I do now receive Him,
More than all in Him I find.
He hath granted me forgiveness,
I am His, and He is mine.

Thanks for posting this great hymn. It's one of my favourites. I love playing it on the piano. We would sing it often when I was on staff at The Peoples Church in Toronto and the combination of the organ, the piano and 1,500 plus people added to the crescendo (sp?) of the song.

Have a great week! Tomorrow is when we get possession of our place on Division Road.

Be encouraged!
