Dodging the Bullet

Well, dear Pilgrim Pals, the day is almost over, August will soon be history and our mortgage will be paid. Another miracle at the 11th hour! God certainly provides in unusual way and He did it again today. You can read the details when I release my book.

What a week it's been! Whew! I'm glad it's over and yet I can't get my head around the fact that September is less than an hour away. Time has passed so quickly! It reminds me of an old hymn we used to sing back in the olden days ( aren't I sounding like a grandpa?):

Life at best is very brief,
Like the falling of a leaf
Like the binding of a sheaf,
Be in time.

Tonight Matthew and Nathan went with me to a Peterborough Petes scrimmage. Training camp began two days ago. The hockey season is just around the corner. It was refreshing to have players who haven't seen me for several months come up to me and ask when we're going to start MONDAY WE HAVE FISH, our twice-monthly chapel services.

Before I sign off I want to thank everyone who wished Matthew a Happy Birthday. We read PILGRIM PALS together and I told Matthew a little bit about each one who passed along greetings. THANK YOU!

Secondly, thanks for everyone who prayed for a miracle today. God answered and we praise Him for that.

Good night, dear ones, and, as I so often say, "Have a good and godly weekend!"

A POST FROM HEB.

hebrews 11:1 said...
Can someone please post this for me? Thank you.
Yesterday I bought a used copy of “The Case for Faith” for 2 bucks, and have been reading it whenever I have a spare moment. This section really struck me, and I think it’s something ALL us Pals can gain some encouragement:
“Jesus is there sitting beside us in the lowest places of our lives. Are we broken? He was broken, like bread, for us. Are we despised? He was despised and rejected of men. Do we cry out that we can’t take anymore? He was a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief. Do people betray us? He was sold out himself? Are our tenderest relationships broken? He too was loved and rejected. Do people turn from us? They hid their faces from Him as from a leper. “Does He descend into all of our hells? Corrie ten Boom wrote, ‘No matter how deep our darkness, He is deeper still.’ He not only rose from the dead, He changed the meaning of death and therefore of all the little deaths- the sufferings that anticipate death and make up parts of it. He is gassed in Auschwitz. He is sneered in Soweto. He is mocked in Northern Ireland. He is enslaved in the Sudan. He’s the one we love to hate, yet to us He has chosen to return love. Every tear we shed becomes His tear. He may not wipe them away yet, but He will. “In the end, God has only given us partial explanations. Maybe that’s because He saw that a better explanation wouldn’t have been good for us. I don’t know why…“But He knew Jesus was more than an explanation. He’s what we really need. If your friend is sick and dying, the most important thing he wants is not an explanation; he wants you to sit with him. He’s terrified of being alone more than anything else. So God has not left us alone.“And for that, I love Him.”

DAVID is calling on THE LORD

OKAY - this is for the "pals" -- David emailed me and is having puter troubles, as well as being not able to post on pals -- all of which "adds" to his frustrating times --- David is happy in the Lord, still trusting LARGE and wants the "pals" to know that he loves us all , is praying for each and is happy that "pals" came into existence. David says that the 11th hour is fast approaching for God's miracle of finances - Sept 1st , I guess is when money is due - he is asking for prayer, for finances, guidance and health. He has done all he can, he even hates bringing the subject up, but really brethren, if it was sickness , we would keep petitioning, its no different , its money this time and not sickness, so we keep praying -- TWO OR MORE agree -- WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE THE PETITIONS WE ASK for we KNOW that HE hears us -- let us ask anew tonight for our brother David -- lets all be looking for that miracle -- lets guess at how God will deliver David this blessing -- will it be a donor ? - will he receive an inheritance -- Why not look for a unique way for OUR GOD TO ANSWER -- WE ARE TO BE EXPECTING --- The time is more crucial now than ever -- David feels the pressure and is asking us to beleive with him for God's assistance, no not assistance , but God's deliverance --- please , join us in prayer , believing for the FISHER FAMILY

31 Things

As per David's request to think about and then post our 31 things in which we can offer up praise and thanksgiving to God for what He has done and continues to do for us here is my list:

1. Thankful for His healing touch

2. I'm thankful for friends who call and take you on a picnic.

3. For His inerrant Word.

4. For the fellowship we can have around His Word.

5. For His love which unifies us.

6. For Christ's willingness to go to the Cross "for the joy set before Him."

7. For my Pilgram Pals who are faithful to uphold one another in prayer while carrying each other's burdens.

8. For tiny improvements each day for dear hubby.

9. I am so thankful for the pallette of colors which the Lord chose to color our world.

10. For His sovereignty.

11. For answered prayer.

12. For His mercies and how they are new every morning.

13. That we are each unique people, one of a kind. I love the diversity there will be in Heaven.

14. I love His tenderness toward us as He knows our frame.

15. I'm thankful for laughter and the joy it brings.

16. And as I mentioned in the comments last night/early this morning, I'm thankful I was able to sleep in this morning. :)

17. I praise Him for the normal, even mundane tasks to do every day for it reminds me that there is nothing to small or insignificant that isn't important to Him. If He is paying attention to my attitude while I'm performing that insignificant task then there IS significance to that task. And He cares.

18. I thank Him that we can be renewed daily by getting sleep.

19. I'm thankful He did not leave me to figure out everything on my own. He left the Holy Spirit within me to guide, direct, teach and correct me.

20. I am thankful I am going to Heaven. That I can be assured of my salvation.

21. I praise God for His promises which remain faithful and true throughout the ages. That they are trustworthy and I can cling to them during difficult times.

22. I am deeply privileged to be able to enter directly into His throne room and talk with Him face to face.

23. What a privilege it is to be able to pray for my brothers and sisters in the Lord.

24. How grateful I am that God allows me to enter into salvation work with Him. What an honor to pray for the salvation of Terry's dad, Dad Golden.

25. I am thankful for the seasons which come and go. They bring relief from the very hot and the very cold.

26. I am humbled beyond measure that God saw fit to redeem me.

27. I am thankful He does not show me the full extent of my sin as it would crush me.

28. I deeply thankful for my sister. All are with the Lord now, except for her.

29. I am humbled that God Almighty would "sing over me." (Lam 3:17)

30. How thankful I am that my God is bigger, larger, wiser, perfect beyond comprehension, Holy, Holy, Holy than anything I could possibly think up.

31. I am thankful, grateful, exceedingly glad that He is SUFFICENT!!

Miracle Day

Dear Pals:

Today is deadline day! We need a financial MIRACLE! Please pray that the windows of heaven will open and pour out such a blessing that we won't be able to contain God's rich resources. HE IS MORE THAN ABLE!

THANKS FOR PRAYING, dear Pals!

Adressing CBD being bought by JW's...

I was quite disturbed when I read the comment about CBD being bought by Jehovah Witnesses so I did a search. You can read about it for yourself here:
http://www.christianbook.com/html/cms/general/CompanyProfile.html

and why they choose the producst they choose:
http://www.christianbook.com//html/our_company/whywecarry.html

Unfortunately, I believe that a rumor has been perpetuated, similar to the Proctor and Gamble one about the company being tied to satanism. If CBD has been sold to Jehovah Witnesses then I would be interested in reading a news article or some other solid information that tells us the factual story.

We always need to be aware of how the enemy works. He would like nothing better than to discredit a solid Christian business. Anyway, thanks for the heads up so I could research it. My policy has always been to do like the Bereans did in Acts, take what I hear and compare it with truth. In their case, they were comparing the good news which they had heard preached with the Scriptures which they new to be truth. (Acts 17:11) Now, obviously I cannot compare this news to Scripture but I can research newspapers or articles which have been published to find out the authenticity of what is being purported. Thanks for providing the "heads up" so I could dig deeper. Much appreciated.

Conversation about death...

I had a discussion last week with several people. It began by an innocent comment involving the timing of a person's death. Now, I don't mean to step on anyone's toes at all. That is not my intention. The woman who made the surprising comment is a godly woman who I admire greatly and respect her even more. It had never dawned on me that she held this particular viewpoint. What is it you ask?!

The comment which had been made was, "Well, if our son were to die over in Iraq then I know that he would have died that same moment here at home. The Lord would have just used a different medium to accomplish His desired will." My friend then responded, "Well, God knows when you are going to die but I don't believe He has planned it. Since He knows the beginning from the end He knows when you are going to die."

I asked her if she had any Biblical support to back up her reasoning. She never really shared any, other than she did mention Hezekiah asking the Lord for 15 more years at the time of his near death. Of course, I had intended to use Hezekiah for one of my sources. :) (2 Kings 20:5-6)

I thought for a minute as other people were throwing out questions. Then I shared, "It seems to me that God Who, according to Acts, has "determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live," [Acts 17:26 NIV] would be in control of the times people die. Furthermore, I do believe that in Psalm 139: 16 it states very clearly, "All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be." I went on and shared that God is so precise to know the number of the hairs on our head (Matthew 10:30) why wouldn't he also determine the day of your death?

The more I thought about it the more convinced I became. After all, God is not a god of confusion. Why would He be so careful about where you live, how many hairs He places on your head but not care about the detail of your death? Finally I thought, "God planned His own Son's birth thousands of years before He was ever born and prophesied when that would be. He also planned His exact hour of death. If God planned His birth and death why wouldn't He plan our births and deaths? Ours just aren't prophesied like Jesus' was."

I guess the above is why I believe that it isn't cancer that kills someone, nor is it a car crash, or war or any other act that is so often associated with death. When a person dies it is their appointment with God. God may have used the car crash, or the cancer or the "whatever" to accomplish His divine will, but He alone is the one who calls us before Him.

That for me, brings such comfort. However, I can understand why some people may not be so comforted with these thoughts. Hebrews 9:27 makes it very clear that it "is appointed to man to die once and then comes judgment..." My friend, if you are one who has not trusted Christ for your future won't you please do it now?

Ten Years!!

Ten years ago today my Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. It's a day that will forever be etched in memory. What I was wearing, feeling, the people I saw, the food I had for dinner....I could tell you every last detail of that day.
I was so young, just sixteen and I had just arrived home from a fabulous summer of serving at camp and being a live-in-nanny, I often wonder how I handled it all....the uncertainty of her possible death, the awkwardness of having to tell friends, having to be more of a 'parent figure' to my younger siblings, the list goes on.
But by God's loving kindness and from the amazing support of friends and family we made it through. Since then, around this time each year I spend a bit of time reflecting on the past, but also, rejoicing and expressing true thankfulness to God for my Mom's life and allowing her to mark one more year of healthiness.....Lauramae

I'm Blessed

Driving to work tonight I was thinking how blessed I am to have such a wonderful fellowship of pilgrims who love me and care for me. Wow! God is doing something good amongst the men and women He has assembled.

I got to thinking about how exciting it would be if the PILGRIM PALS were all together in one place for a retreat. What incredible joy we'd experience as we met each other and enjoyed the presence of God together.

We could all gather in the Adirondacks near Lisa J's place! Hint! Hint!

As I lay my head on my pillow tonight I thank God for each of you and for what you mean to each of us.

Bless be the tie that binds our hearts in Christian love!

Maranatha!

31 Things

Well, dear friends, it's been a tough week but God is good. Driving to work tonight I saw these encouraging words on the Free Methodist Church in Peterborough:

Life isn't always fair but God is always faithful.

So true! In the midst of our trials He stands forever faithful! Hallelujah!

On the eve of the 31st of August, I want to thank God for 31 things. The list could go on and on but I'll just list 31 things worthy of praise and thanksgiving. I'll add one prayer request as well.

  1. The faithfulness of God
  2. His grace and mercy which are amazing
  3. His salvation which I experienced when I was only 6 years old
  4. The great and precious promises found in His Word.
  5. The inspired, inerrant, infallible scriptures.
  6. The blessed hope of the soon return of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
  7. Godly men who pioneered the gospel and left a legacy for those who come behind
  8. The testimonies of men like Spurgeon, Taylor, Muller, Moody, Wesley and others
  9. Godly women like Elisabeth Elliot, Amy Carmichael, Isobel Kuhn and Fanny Crosby
  10. Godly parents who taught me to love the Lord and follow Him
  11. The spiritual gifts that God has graciously granted to me
  12. The power of the Holy Spirit to carry out the Lord's work
  13. Godly friends who invest in my life and ministry
  14. Faithful supporters who have encouraged me in the various ministries I'm involved with
  15. A loving supportive wife who stands with me during the good times and the bad
  16. The children and grandchildren who God has blessed me with
  17. The church in which I was raised where I was taught the fundamentals of the faith
  18. The opportunity to be on staff for several years at The Peoples Church in Toronto
  19. The trip of a lifetime to Bristol, England earlier this year
  20. My library of life-changing Christian books
  21. The calling of God on my life to offer encouragement to athletes
  22. Friendships with hundreds of professional athletes over the past 30 plus years
  23. The mentorship of men like Paul Collet and Keith Price
  24. The fellowship of Pilgrim Pals which God has assembled in the last several months
  25. A lovely home in the country
  26. A measure of good health over the years
  27. The opportunity to own and manage a Christian bookstore for 15 years
  28. The relationship with Jesus Christ that continues to grow every day
  29. The joy of working with the Peterborough Petes and the Liftlock Stars hockey teams
  30. Men like John MacArthur, John Piper and James MacDonald who faithfully contend for the faith
  31. A relatively sound mind which can recall God's faithfulness over the years

That's my feeble attempt to list 31 things I'm grateful for.

My most pressing prayer request is that God would miraculously provide for our financial needs which are many.

Pilgrim Pals, why not add your list of 31 things you are grateful to God for. And...you can add a prayer request. Go ahead! I'm anxious to read your lists.

Good night, friends!

THIS CHRIST

Cor. 5:21 says For HE hath made HIM to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in HIM. My thought would be this , If God has, at the expense of Jesus Christ, thru HIS suffering, pain, sacrifice and death, made us Righteous, freely, a gift, nothing we did to deserve this. Then would it not seem only "right" that we out of "grattitude" would want to follow holiness of heart and lifestyle . Following in the Master's footsteps, not conforming to this world's mindset, but following "hard" after Christ.
Now, if we don't do that or want to do that, then self is on the throne or sin lies at the door -- The Good Master spoke of leaven and the danger it is when allowed in the lump. Let us examine ourselves and renew afresh His Love for us and our "wanting" to be pleasing to God for scripture says " Thanks be to God for His Unspeakable Gift to us"
If we fail sometimes , then we know with repentance that He ever lives to intercede and is faithful and just to forgive us our sins --- IS THAT HOPE OR WHAT --
2nd part
I avoid mostly any talk of past experiences for we need to live in the now, daily manna, daily obedience but like U all, we have seen God work by obeying His Word. One Sunday morning, service was just ending , people filing out the rear doors. I was stopped by a Janette Mayberry, a poor woman with 6 or 7 children. She said, pastor, my middle boy Benjamin hurt his arm last nite, he is in great pain - (now Benjamin was probably about 12 or 13 years old, did not care for church or God - a rough back woodsie type kid, tough as nails) I looked at Benjamin and he was in pain , holding his right arm by the elbow area - his forearm was white looking and cold to the touch - he winced as I touched his arm - (this kid is tough and I knew he was hurting) - I said Benjamin, we are going to pray, will U give God the Credit when He touches U, Benjamin hardly looked at me, he nodded ever so slightly, I called over two other mature saintly men, we put on hands on Benjamin's shoulders and back and I prayed this prayer - Lord we thankyou for touching Benjamin in Jesus's Healing Name, amen -- we looked down at Benjamin's arm and U could see color coming back into his forearmn, it came from the elbow and went toward the hand -- he found instant relief, there were quite a few people still standing about and all could see this. His mother was thrilled and Benjamin went out the door with hardly a thankyou - lol ---The gist of this is -- We are to obey God, pray, expect, declare His GOODNESS and witness --- we are the Church Triumphant ---

Words Of Wisdom By Heather

Before Cancer, I thought I had the world by the horns. I had a wonderfully wonderful husband, great kids, great parents, and great friends. I couldn’t have asked for more. Even Emma’s health was remarkably well.
Now, I take a look back at my past and wonder. I wonder if I had known then that I had cancer, would I do anything different. Was I the friend that I should have been, the wife, the mother, the daughter? When people looked at my life, did they think good things, or bad. Did I bring a smile to their face or a scowl to their hearts.
I would love to tell you that the answer was super positive, and that I hadn’t hurt anyone in my life. But that would be false. I am human, after all. I have done my fair share of hurting people, and I feel horrible when thinking about the people whose lives I have touched in a negative way.
Then I started thinking about people who I have been hurt by. Ouch. That one stings a bit more. Cancer has changed my view of myself. I no longer look at myself as “entitled”. I am owed nothing. This life is what God destined it to be for me, and nothing more. When I think of people in my past who have hurt me or who I feel have done me wrong, I smile. I know they didn’t mean to, and even if they did, it isn’t worth hanging onto anymore. I can make a conscience choice to live in the past and be angry and bitter, or I can choose the road less traveled and look towards what ever the future holds for me, forgiveness and all.
Forgiveness does not change the past, but it does enlarge the future.
That is so very true. I have come along way in my journey, not just with cancer but life. Some things are just not worth holding onto.
These lyrics from Brandon Heath really really touch me:
Well the thing I find most amazingIn amazing graceIs the chance to give it outMaybe that’s what love is all about
How can I talk about grace and Christ’s love, yet not be forgiving of those who have hurt me? I’m learning that it is easier to forgive when you have Christ by your side- His grace is an amazing amazing thing, and it has taught me so very much in the last few months. Forgiveness doesn’t have to be such a horrid painful thing, it really doesn’t. After all, we have such a great example. When Christ said “Seventy times Seven”, He really meant it. I know that some of you are burning holes through the screen, but seriously, He did.
Now, I am not saying that you should let every person back into your life that has caused you harm. I am not stupid, there are some relationships that just cant be put back together again. Trust me, I know. Cancer has taught me alot about not being naive too
I use to question God about forgiveness saying “You don’t know how much they hurt me” or my favorite “You just don’t understand” I am sure that He had a smile on His face during those moments.
How in the world can God NOT understand? He made the ultimate sacrifice for my sins. He forgave me of every trespass that I have made.
The very least I can do is forgive those who trespass against me.

PALS PRAYING

THIS IS WHAT "PALS" IS ALL ABOUT -- This is what The Lord laid on David's heart, a place for Christians to support and pray for one another to edify the Church and glorify GOD -- here is two of our Christian sisters praying and supporting one another in Christ's Name -- copied from last nite's posts from Claire and Look at Felisol's deliverance to answered prayer !
Pilot Mom said...
Felisol, I pray for your daughter every day! I pray for her when I am praying for Pilot. :) I think because they are both only children is why I group them together. It is difficult to be away from your child, no matter their age, when they are sick. I have been so concerned for Serina because of how sick she was. She will be very susceptible to infections because of 1)having been so sick and 2)because she is in a new environment surrounded by new people. However, you and I both know that God is greater than any distance and He knows her better than even you since He created her in you.I love these verses which you have shared. He will be going ahead of Serina and laying flat the mountain she will be hiking. I am praying for you as I type that you will be able to sleep. My guess is that you are awake because of your worry for your precious daughter. Dear Friend, lay it all in His lap and close your eyes, take a deep breath and allow your mind to shut down and go to sleep. We will all be praying for Serina, as well as you and Gunnar. It's 11 in the morning in Norway.God opens gates of bronze and cut bars of iron, indeed. But I have had to walk through the doors myself, I am not lame.I got through to Serina's doc here in town, he phone perscription on antibiotoics acroos the country, and got in contact with school administration, who fetched the medicine and brought it to Serina on her way to the mountains.Health care in Norway is pritty bureaucratic, so without God opening doors this could not have been done within half an hour.Honour to the Gate opener and to Pilot Mom who helped praying.Felisol

Perfect ending to the day....

This was the sunset this evening in my neck of the mountains! I thought I shouldn't be the only one to enjoy something so magnificent! I haven't been on the computer much lately but I have been popping into Pals to read and stay caught up with prayer requests. I've been suffering from bursitis but I am improving. I went to see my NUCCA chiropractor who is so gentle--none of the yank and jerk stuff for me (no offense to anyone who might use a yank and jerk chiropractor).

Jim has been complaining about food not tasting good after a few days of it tasting pretty well. Turns out he has thrush again. I'm telling you, everything gets messed up with radiation. I went and picked up his Rx so he should be back enjoying food in a day or so.

Thank you all for praying. Truly, I cannot imagine a person having to go through a day without friends...brothers and sisters in the Lord, who are faithful to lift up one another before our Lord and Savior. What a terrible world it be. It matters not if it seems like a small request or a large request, He addresses them all. And personally, I don't know anyone who is ever struck with "small" prayer request. In my book, if it is happening to me it MUST be LARGE! ;)

NEW CREATION

2 Cor. 5:17 Any man in Christ is a new creation - old things are passed away , behold all things become new -- I like the word BEHOLD , Take Notice , Divine Power at Work -- of course, in the first years of a born-again life , the changes are radical, life changing, everyone can see them -- as time goes on we adjust , settle in and then try and live a life pleasing to the Lord. What should never change or be settled in is our Love for God , our Gratefulness , 2 Cor 5:21 - He made Him to be sin for us that we might be made the righteousness of God -- Our lives, our smiles, our demeanour, our walk , our talk , our deeds should SHOW THIS LOVE FOR THE GREAT SUBSTITUIONARY DEATH AND LIFE OF THE LAMB OF GOD. For we were and are a sinful people worthy of death and hellbound sinners without the slightest chance of saving ourselves. So let it not be named among us who profess Christ, any of the "worldliness" the lust and love of the mindset of this world -- Let us seek those things above , let us daily examine ourselves in the light of His Word and in the light of His Sacrifice.
humbly submitted by a man that has dissappointed God many a time.

Desperate and Distracted Today

Well, today was not quite as good as the last two days. And yet, not totally bad after all was said and done. All day - every single minute - I was literally obsessed with thinking about T. ...his salvation mostly, but hey, I have to be honest here - you already know I am strongly attracted to T. also! I know in my heart and gut it isn't what God wants - at least not right now. T. has his own obsessions going - mainly work, work and more work!! He needs to find his true value in Christ. I wanted to email him so bad today, as I want to build the friendship with him to witness to him!

"How then can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?....Romans 10:14

"How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news...." Isaiah 52:7

So, between getting my work accomplished today - I prayed desperately all day in my heart - while driving - while working - even in the washroom!! Prayer is good - but it was HARD work today!

I thought often of the scripture, "My grace is sufficient for you......"
2 Corinth. 12:9

And Grace I Got! I did not email T. today.

What a silly battle in light of the other battles going on here with cancer etc! But thank you Pals for letting me air my struggle.

One another note: I'm also desperate for God's direction tonight. At 7 p.m. I will be meeting with my friend Debbie. She is in a lot of turmoil - she attends the church I used to and the "toxicity" of that place is getting to her. But it isn't as easy for her to leave - she has a husband and a child to consider. However, I am highly concerned about her mental health. I want to give godly - wise advise, so please pray for my words to be guided by the Holy Spirit.

Blessings Pals.

Concerning Arlene From Miss Patty's Blog

ISAIAH 53:5
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,
and by his wounds we are healed.
Remember to pray for Arlene, Heather and Sandy, they urgently need a healing touch. Please remember their families in prayer also.

This was copied and pasted from Miss Patty's blog.
Once a week, usually on a Wednesday this dear Christian sister puts Isaiah 53:3 in a post for Arlene.
I don't really know how Arlene is feeling but I did see this at Miss Patty's site http://livingongrace.blogspot.com/, and thought it would be a good reminder to pray for Arlene.I know that we all have been doing just that for not only Arlene but also for Heather, Ronnie, Pilot-dad and Minerva for their different cancers..

BY HIS STRIPES!!

Thanks Miss Patty for this beautiful post..

Bittersweet

This beautiful photo was "borrowed" from our friend Ann Voskamp over at Holy Experience. What an incredible shot!

I entitled this post "Bittersweet" because it reminds me of the tragic hot air balloon accident last weekend in British Columbia where a mother and her daughter lost their lives. Others were seriously hurt when a fireball erupted and the balloon caught fire and crashed to the ground. That's the "bitter" part.

The "sweet"? The incredible sunset and the sihouette of the barn and silo. What a mighty, loving Creator we serve!

The heavens certainly "declare the glory of God"!

Good night, pals! Thanks for your faithful prayer support!

~ David

Hi Pals!

Just thought I'd hop by and say a quick hello! Thank you so much for your ongoing prayers! Day two passed without any major temptation to contact T. This is about obeying and waiting on the Lord. Even so I still would like you to continue praying for T's salvation - perhaps God could send a Christian man to him to witness and mentor him. Thank you Lord - we know it is your holy will that all men are saved!

You know what I thought of this morning? I've been praying so hard for good fellowship with other strong believers and I was so discouraged recently that I didn't have it - don't have fellowship?? But I do!! The Lord reminded me this morning that He led me to this site! I do have fellowship - with each of you and it is such a privilage.

Well, I'm hopping off to bed now for my nightly time with Jesus.

Julie (LM)

PS Please pray for my friend Debbie - she is going through a very tough time - decisions about changing churches and some other issues too. Thanks so much.

None...Yet

In case you didn't read the comment from Hebrews 11:1 following my recent posting, she quoted one of my favorite passages from the minor prophets. Thanks, dear friend!

Here it is:

"Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls, Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments." - Habakkuk 3:17-19 (KJV)

Patiently (???) Waiting

Dear Pilgrim Pals:

God's best to each of you! These are difficult times for many of us but God is greater than any circumstance we may face.

This afternoon I saw my doctor about the bursitis/cellulitis in my right arm. Yesterday I finished the oral antibiotics but felt that there wasn't enough of an improvement to cease the medications. My doctor agreed and prescribed another 10 days worth. He also sent me for blood work and x-rays. He is giving me a referal to an infectious disease specialist as well.

Thanks for your prayers.

Driving home from Toronto my mind was filled with all manner of thoughts.

Here are a few:

Introspection
Frustration
On the verge of tears
Sadness
Tired of the financial fight
NSF
Praise to God for good friends
A faithful God
Miracles still happen
Discouragement
Pressure
Darkness
Summer is over
Fear of the unknown
Computer has a virus
The riches of God's grace
Merciful Father
Getting old
Staying the course

How could an old guy think about all that driving home? I don't know...but I did!

Tomorrow is a new day! Matthew will turn 12! We have a birthday celebration planned.

My PILGRIM PALS are a God-send. Thank You, Father!

Learning to lean on Him,

David

P. S. Thanks for the picture and the scripture, Saija. We are praying for you and Leo!

HAVING FAITH

Greetings "Pals" - In the midst of trials and testings, many have stood Solid, all here in pals are veterans of many battles. The older we get the more difficult it seems to be, strange , U would think it would get easier, but God's faith is alive only for the day, for the moment. Faith is a day by day manna experience, yesterdays manna will spoil. George Mueller's Journals are full of faith building exercises that God allowed his servant to experience. He reports, 10 pounds came in for the day and the average expenses then were 124 pounds daily, yet he was calm in the center of the storm, donors died off, moved or lost interest, and God would raise new donors or send money in by different methods , George's eye was on God , not the donor or the method. This applies to all of us and not just in money - health, miracles, jobs, healings , etc.

The Amy Carmichaels, The John Bunyans , The Reese Howells, The Brother Andrews -- I can remember tithing 30% with a young family to raise on 65 dollars a week , and confounding church people by always having enough and able to get by and the family never went without -- statistically it seemed impossible but yet at the end of the month, we had surplus -- not only money, but clothing , trips , cars - HE ALWAYS PROVIDED , but as we get older , we seem to "shake" more in our faith --- ANYWAY - THIS POST WAS MEANT TO BUILD US UP IN OUR FAITH ---- I get to "rambling" lol ------ like many of U in pals, we can tell of many answers to our prayers -- LET US REMEMBER and TESTIFY TO THE GLORY OF OUR FAITHFUL GOD

THE MIGHTY CHURCH

I was so tired from working yesterday, didn't get on till about 9:30 last nite and then didn't stay on but abit - slept over this morning too so this is just a quick note !

MAY THE LORD BLESS ALL OF U "PALS" - it is so exciting to see the women of depth and quality in Christian ways in here --- maybe we don't realise this, but - other blogs or fellowships would love to have these "mothers of Israel" . "Pals" is about real Service to God and that is a sore spot with the devil, the evil spirit that he is will make war on the saints, demoralizing them, stirring the pot when he can, but We have The Mighty God , The Prince of Peace, The Alpha and Omega, The One Who sits on the White Horse, His eyes ablaze as with coals of fire, The One they call THE RESSURECTION, The Living Water.

Praying for U all today, hold on the ones that are hurting the most. I see Christian Terry, and there is Christian Claire rushing over to help hold up one of our own that is down in spirit and one knee is on the ground, lifting her arms , pointing toward Heaven, calling on the Holy Spirit - The fight is on ---- here comes Donna , she has called some of her friends to pray -- Vicki is rallying troops from all over ---Saija said I am busy with Leo but not that busy, she bends her knees in prayer , The Lord lays a burden on Felisol to just happens to pray for the wounded hurting Christian , amazing this God Business -- THE CHURCH TRIUMPHANT --- Lord Bless

Urgent Prayer for Friend

Please pray for this young man who writes and records songs for the Lord out in Oregon. He has expressed some urgent needs and a health matter, but hasn't shared specifics. That's okay 'cause the Lord knows exactly what is needed.

Since he asked for prayer, I also invited him here. Let's carry Bill and his little family before the Lord this next little while, that the gates of heaven would open up in marvelous ways.

Lord, that your grace, healing, and mercy would be evident to all.

Drop by
Bill's blog if you'd like to leave a note of encouragement. Thank you for praying, Pilgrims!

Update: Vicki's Hubby

First of all, my husband says to tell all the Pilgrims "thank you." That's you!

He saw the cardiologist and explained the episode he had with chest pain yesterday, but the EKG was normal, praise the Lord! No heart attack. However, his BP was through the roof, and so the doctor changed his blood pressure meds back to what he took before heart sugery. He said this happens sometimes after surgery like this....especially since Richard had hypertension before. Pray that these two meds will bring it down again. As to his new heart valve, the doc said it's doing just great! Both doctors, both the surgeon and cardiologist, have marveled at his progress.

Jesus, thank you for letting me sleep last night finally, and for protecting him once again.

Thanks so much for your care and concern. I'm making my rounds, scooping up prayer needs, and taking 'em to the Lord....

"
And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast." ~ 1 Peter 5:10

NEW TESTAMENT PALS

Just getting on line -- have read all the posts, and the comments and what can I say ! -- to see the support of the women in here is so New Testament - I prayed as well as U all did , thankyou - time will tell of these prayers - NOT ONE PRAYER has gone unnoticed by GOD , think of that ! - My list this morning holds true for tonight -- Vicki was hurting and stays up and prays, Claire is hurting and she prays - Terry has family emergencies and she prays and supports as U all do -- my heart goes out for David, for him to post of his black hole, his needs , his wife under stress no doubt has affected her . Julie sweet insp. panicky over decisions -- U women like Saija having spouses that need attention - what a year this has been for all of U -- Heb hurting and frustrated- Donna as well is in this group , Julie Lil M fighting different kinds of issues -- AND YET -- U ALL ARE IN PALS , PRAYING , SUPPORTING AND WILLING TO PRAY FOR OTHERS , HOW NEW TESTAMENT IS THAT ! --- "God is not unfaithful to forget your labour of love " wow -- what does that say EH ! whats next ? -- GOD KNOWS and we continue "ON COURSE" -- " MY ANCHOR HOLDS" - I can see old George Mueller , looking out one of his windows in Orphanage # 3 , on a bitter cold english nite , having 1,500 orphans to look after, little food , some sick , with only 3 pence on hand , alone and yet NOT ALONE , poor and yet RICH -- THE GOD THAT SEEN HIM THRU WILL SEE US THRU ----

The Power of Praying Pilgrims!

Hi folks, just wanted to give a quick praise report - and thank you for praying once again for my "little" needs. I've said this before and I'll say it again - wow! - God really is using the Pilgrims to manifest His power and glory! I shouldn't be surprised, but I am. I awoke this morning feeling filled with the Light of Christ and His grace in my heart to resist the temptation to "chase" after things not of God...namely - T. I knew it wouldn't be an issue for today.

I ask that you keep this before our Lord in the next few weeks. I'll need a constant infusion of grace to really conquer this particular temptation and to wait with faith upon the Lord's choice of mate for me!

I'm heading to bed now to have my time of prayer and in the Word.

Thanks and God bless y'all.

Praying For Our Precious Pilgrim Pal Heather

Many of you have asked if I can take a different type of Chemo, and the answer is somewhat complicated. Temodar is the best for brain tumors because it has the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. That is why it is so popular amongst Neurology Oncologist.
Very few conventional chemotherapeutic drugs can penetrate the blood-brain barrier, a “wall” that protects the brain by pumping toxins out of brain tissues and back into the blood stream. This barrier greatly limits the choice of chemotherapeutic agents that can be used to treat brain cancers. But some drugs are effective, and some tumors do respond to therapy. In recent years, researchers have refined and expanded the use of chemotherapy as a next-line approach after surgery and radiotherapy for the treatment of brain tumors.
Neuro-oncologists are involved in the development of a number of new chemotherapy drugs for brain cancer, including targeted therapies. For example, the relatively new drug temozolomide (Temodar®) is used as a targeted therapy. It interferes with cell division, thus slowing tumor growth. Because the basic building blocks of temozolomide are small molecules, the drug is able to cross the blood-brain barrier and reach tissues other chemotherapeutic agents cannot.
Luckily, Friday, I was able to see my GP and he prescribed Kytril (Thanks to whoever recommended it in my comments!). 1 Kytril pill is equivalent to 4 Zofran (I was taking 4 Zofran a night, the maximum dose recommended in a 24 hour period, and still woke up at 2 am every night with nausea). I also can take Zofran if needed, but not at the same time as Kytril. My oncology nurse said that it will take a couple of times (ie, a few months) to find out what works for my body. Naturally, I don’t want to wait a couple of months. So yesterday I went to Whole Foods and stocked up on leafy greens, morning shakes and fruit. I will combat the constipation with my regimen of laxatives, bran and fiber and my lack of energy with good hearty food that can be eaten in small doses. I will keep on top of the nausea before I have symptoms, and I will continue to take Zofran/Kytril for three days after my cycle of Temodar stops. I will drink tons and tons of water, and take Temodar with a full 12 oz of water a night.
Here are the common side effects for Temodar:The most common side effects associated with TEMODAR® therapy are nausea, vomiting, anorexia, alopecia, headache, fatigue, constipation, convulsions, weakness, and thrombocytopenia.
Thankfully, I only experience nausea, vomiting, fatigue, constipation and thrombocytopenia (low platelets). I have had moderate weight loss, but I am not anorexic
I take chemo tonight, before bed, so say an extra prayer for me at 9:30 est. I really think we have a good game plan down this time. The main thing is to stay on top of things so that you aren’t chasing after them later (IE: nausea and constipation) Many of you have asked if I will continue taking chemo, and the answer is YES. I will take it as long as my body allows me too (IE: my platelets and wbc stay up).
Specific prayer requests:- That my body would react better this time.- That my spirit would be at peace- That I would not fear, the fear is the worst- That Satan would stay out of my thought life- That the chemo does what it is suppose to do, and only that.
Thanks for your prayers

We Are a Vapor, He is Eternal

My friend and fellow encourager Stephen Weber of Daily Encouragement Net posted the following devotional on his site today. It resonated with my heart. Check out Stephen and Brooksyne's site.

"You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away" (James 4:14).

"But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God, the eternal King" (Jeremiah 10:10).

We had a wonderful church service yesterday, with an extra special touch of the Lord's Spirit.

A candid testimony of victory and overcoming by one of our youth who is heading off to college dovetailed into the morning's message. The testimony brought tears to many eyes and the pastor followed with a special call to sensitivity toward the Holy Spirit's leading in each of our lives.

The next several songs were so appropriate in focusing praise to God and the congregation sang out with heartfelt enthusiasm. The praise team and congregation were visibly moved as the Spirit was working within our hearts. As we were being seated the pastor commented, "Our praise team's enthusiasm this morning is not a result of their eating Wheaties, but it is the moving of the Spirit."

One of the songs, "Be Unto Your Name" especially moved us into grateful worship toward God. The following stanza transformed my heart as I contemplated God's time perspective in contrast to a finite earthbound way of regulating time.

We are a moment, You are forever.
Lord of the ages, God before time.
We are a vapor, You are eternal
Love everlasting, reigning on high.

I suppose the one line that especially stayed with me even through this writing is, "We are a vapor, You are eternal." Songwriters, Lynne DeShazzo and Gary Sadler, share their thoughts about writing this song: "We started talking about how fragile and temporal life is ---that it's just a vapor or a moment and how our lives pass so quickly and yet God's life goes on and on forever. Juxtaposed against the vastness and eternity of God, all that we could say in the chorus of the song we wrote is what anyone would say when faced with that reality – Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty.

It seemed to echo a heart expression of every believer – awe, humility and reverence in the light of One so great."James writes of this in the first daily text. "You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away."

Based upon our present comprehension of time this may be hard to grasp although I notice time seems to move a lot faster as I'm quickly edging along in the life cycle.

To seek another perspective of how quickly time flees take a walk through a cemetery. We walk past Kraybill Cemetery 1/3 mile up the road from our house almost everyday. Sometimes Brooksyne and I take a slow, thoughtful walk through examining the markers. As we do we're always reminded that life is indeed a vapor. Expressions of faith on some of the grave headings remind those left behind of the eternal dimension of one's life.

A Scripture message we inscribed on my parent's marker sums up the entire reason for living as well as the reason for dying, "For me to live is Christ, to die is gain."

What great assurance the short statement that comprises our second daily verse must have given Jeremiah and will also give us today. "But the LORD is the true God; He is the living God, the eternal King" (Jeremiah 10:10).

Three words describe the immutable God of the universe; true, living and eternal.

Consider each of these bedrock adjectives in light of the shifting sands of the world's value system. They are just as valid in describing God today as they were 2,600 years ago, for God does not change. They describe the One who said "I am the God of…" The present tense is always necessary in describing the true, living and eternal God. He always "is".

The song I noted in the earlier part of the message goes on to proclaim,

Holy, Holy Lord God Almighty.
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain.
Highest praises, honor and glory.
Be unto Your name, be unto Your Name.

Be encouraged today,

Stephen & Brooksyne Weber

God's Word Is Powerful

Dear Pals:

I just read the following passage of scripture which Lisa J. shared with Julie (LM) and was blessed and encouraged! All too often I don't realize and praise God for the power of His mighty Word. He has given us the greatest Book for our good and His eternal glory! READ IT! DIGEST IT! REVEL IN ITS BEAUTY!

Here's that scripture:

2 Peter 1:3 & 4 - "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire." (ESV)

WOW! What truth! His divine power works in us! Incredible!

Heaven Tethers- repost from my blog :)

Hi friends! This is something I posted last week on my blog. I was so encouraged when I listened to John Piper's Cowper biography and the question and answer session, that I felt I wanted to share it. I trust it could be helpful for all of us including those who might struggle for joy, purpose, spiritual health and fellowship. I highly recommend you listen to the sermon if you have some time. Cowper was a man who truly struggled his entire life with crippling depression and despair. Piper does a remarkable job of bringing his story to life and offering hope and joy through the events and other people in Copwer's life, including John Newton, whom Piper described as the healthiest and happiest preacher of that time!

I recently listened to John Piper's biography of William Cowper (for free from Desiring God's resource page). After the excellent sermon, Pastor Piper took questions from the audience of the Pastor's Conference where it was preached. In an answer to a question about helping those who despair, Piper talks about rehearsing the mercy of Jesus.
George Muller said the number one task when you get up in the morning is to be happy in Jesus.
Piper goes on to say that you better fight the battle on your knees to be glad in God in order to be of use to anyone else. We should try to find something in our morning time with God to hang on to and be able to share it with someone who is in need. He says it's always better than a canned 'well, I've got four texts ready on depression...' It's always better to share "here's what I'm hanging on to today, here's the rope that's around me and hooked in heaven..."

So how do we do that? Pastor Piper talks about that morning having read Matthew 23, a hard chapter with tough (not tender) teaching full of woe. But toward the end we see Jesus saying "How often I would have gathered you as a hen gathers her brood" Time was spent meditating on Christ with the 'hen's' heart. Then at the end Christ says, "you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.' and more time was spent meditating on the coming of Christ. So John Piper, that day, hooked to heaven with joy and happiness in dwelling on the heart of Jesus, gathering His chicks and dwelling on the second coming and finding joy in knowing that he will be one of the people who will be saying, 'Blessed is the Lord' and that's what was going to carry him through the day.

What will you find in the morning that will hook you to heaven for the day in gladness. Something that you can rehearse about the mercy of God and the sufficiency of the atonement for you? If you read the morning coffee sections, find a tether and be joyful.

Hi, Pals!

I just got on here, and see i have lots to catch up on. I just want to let you know Ihave a dr's appointment today at 3:30...please pray I'll have peace and the doctor will have wisdom.

Also, my mom just told us that my grandma in the USA is doing awful, and cannt live alone. Interesting, because I awoke Sat. morning, and afer thanking God for life, breath, and no pain, I got a burden to pray for my grandma. When mymom shared this with us, everything inside me screamed, "I WANT TO GO TAKE CARE OF HER NOW!!!" But I held my peace...God's timing is perfect. I asked God that if He would heal me, I will leave all, and take care of my Grannie. It would be ahuge step to leave my family, friends, neighbors, pets, business, jobs, etc. but I would give it all up for her.

God bless you,

Regarding Betty

Betty and John at the hospital

I want to thank everybody for praying for Betty.

When Rachel brought her into the emergency, she was weak and having chest pains.

Her pulse was in the 40's and her blood pressure was very low.

After taking blood tests, she was told there was no heart damage but they decided to do more tests just to be certain.

She was sent home about 2:30 in the morning.

Bernie who had left earlier in the evening, came back to the hospital to pick us up.

Thank you so much for praying my dear friends and thank you Passing-thru for posting!

While we waited with Betty, Rachel plugged me and herself into an ipod and we enjoyed a "concert" from The Dove Brother Quartet.

Here is one of my favorite songs by them...

Rachel likes it too...

So there we sat at Betty's bedside being comforted by the words of this beautiful song..

"I Pledge Allegiance To The Lamb"

I pledge allegiance to the Lamb

With all my strength

With all I am

I will seek to honor His commands

I pledge allegiance to the Lamb

I have heard how Christians long ago

Were brought before a tyrants throne

They were told that he

Would spare their lives

If they would renounce

The name of Christ

But one by one they chose to die

The Son of God, they would not deny

Like a great angelic choir sings

I can almost hear their voices ring

Now the years have come

And the years have gone

And the cause of Jesus still goes on

Now our time has come

To count the cost

To reject this world

To embrace the Cross

And one by one let us live our lives

For the One who died to give us life

Till the trumpet sounds on the final day

Let us proudly stand and boldly say

To the Lamb of God who bore my pain

Who took my place

Who wore my shame

I will seek to honor His commands

I pledge allegiance to the Lamb!!

Thanks. I love you all so much!!!...Love Terry

The Spirit of Prayer

Dear Pilgrim Pals: Here are some powerful words from a man who trusted his God to meet every need:

I live in the spirit of prayer.
I pray as I walk, when I lie down, and when I rise.
And the answers are always coming.
Tens of thousands of times have my prayers been answered.
When once I am persuaded that a thing is right,
I go on praying for it.
The great point is never to give up till the answer comes.
The great fault of the children of God is,
They do not continue in prayer;
They do not persevere.
If they desire anything for God's glory,
They should pray until they get it.

~ George Muller
