When I Lay My Isaac Down by Carol Kent

Yesterday my new books arrived in the mail. Last week I visited a fairly new blogging friend and she had posted on a new book she was reading called A New Kind of Normal by Carol Kent. She had included a short excerpt in her post which I found very interesting. So I hopped over to CBD to see what I could find out about the book. Carol atually has two books out dealing with the same "sacrifice" but coming at it from different perspectives. The other book, which I began reading yesterday is called When I Lay My Issac Down. Powerful book, people, filled with solid Scripture.

"This book outlines eight transformational power principls that Gene and Carol Kent learned in the process of facing the news that forever changed their lives: Their twenty-five-year-old son, a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with an impeccable military record, shot and killed his wife's ex-husband. Jason Paul Kent, long recognized for his exemplary character, now walks a path no one could have predicted...and his family lives in the aftermath of a devastation most cannot imagine.

Carol's candid retelling of her emotional and spiritual agony will touch your heart. The principles the Kents learned in the process of surviving such unspeakable circumstances will bolster your faith, renew your hope, and cahllenge yo to new levels of personal and spiritual commitment." (From the front flap of cover.)

Time weaves its way through the shock, the hurt, and the inexpressible fellings, and one day you discover that in the process of daily survival, you have instinctively made decisions (good and bad), defined your theology, formed an opinion about God, and dtermined that you will either curl up and die emotionally or you will choose life.

There are times in life when all of us are called upon to make heart sacrifices. Some of those sacrifices are things we choose because of a cause we believe in or a desired end that makes our decision worthwhile. However, most of us will face an "Isaac experience," when a crisis is thrust into our lives without warning and without survival instructions. Our "Isaacs" are the heart sacrifices we make when we choose to relinquish control and honor God with our choices even when all seems lost.

When I Lay My Isaac Down by Carol Kent pg. 12

I highly recommend reading this book. When I went to bed last night I was three-fourths of the way through her book. It is solid in her biblical applications to life's situations. With all that is going on right now with our Pilgrims at Pilgrim Pals I do believe it shares active encouragement in fighting a war against the enemy of God and ourselves.

At the end of each chapter she includes a section called God's Power in Your Circumstances. In these sections she will help to direct your thinking with specific Bible verses and she will ask you probing questions to help you work through whatever your "Isaac experience" may be.

I just saw her on James and Betty Robison's show yesterday...she was promoting that very book. It looks like a good book...I thought she was very brave to step forward and tell her story...

Thanks for sharing this Pilot Mom...I for one plan to get her book and read it!

Interesting...I enjoy these book reviews, although I always buy any good book I can find second-hand! And there are certainly plenty I'd like that I can't find used :(

I am sure you are having a blast with Pilot! Treasure the time, and enjoy the moments! My brother was not very impressed with the photos in general-- but liked the one of the cockpit. My sister-- who liked ALL the photos-- would like to know WHAT is being covered in the right hand corner of the cockpit photo? She is just curious. She had to read how high he was flying, and how fast, too! Just like our Daddy...always into planes!

God bless you,
Lil Pilgrim Pal

Hebrews, I think it's just part of a clip board, but I may be mistaken. Whatever it is it was not put there intentionally to cover anything up. :)

The pics are of the alps, and maybe part of Greece, and nearing Turkey. I didn't post any of the desert even though the pics are quite interesting.

Usually they fly around 20,000' but sometimes they come down really low. On their "low level" flying they are only 100 ft off the ground. You have to have nerves of steel to fly low levels!
