A VISITOR

Last nite I had another visitor, one I know very well, he shows up it seems about every three months. He is different than that ego feeding Self character, oh yes, this guy requires no attention, no notice at all. He slips in in such a unique way, its like he carries a bucket of cold water with him. He whispers words that u can't hear, he takes the "edge" off of enthusiasm, he "rains" on your parade. He settles in on the sofa next to U and says its a good day to just relax, we can pick up a bible service next week. The newspaper has more interest for some reason than one of the nuggets of truth from the Word. He is smart, he knows enought not to "turn" U from Christ, just alittle "lukewarm" attitude to the Things of God. U guessed it , He is Mr. Lukewarm, he is as old as time, though he is active and everready to join in to one's zeal for the Lord and slowly take the edge off of your enthusiasm. He never uses words or bribes, or flatteries , he just more or less takes the fun out of the party, he throws water on the fire. He comes in a lethargic way, hoping to influence U, no rush, he whispers, U can pray tomorrow , God is in control here , U just relax, U've done your part, yeah , thats it, just "chill" out.
GOD thru His Word warned us of him, told us to be watchful, to be zealous, continue in the faith, fervent in spirit. I had a few hours of his un-invited companionship, he knew I was aware of his presence, he kept a low profile.
My wife is playing some great old hymns in the kitchen as she prepares supper, they remind me of what I was , where I came from and who God is turning me into.
As I write this , I see Mr. Lukewarm going out thru the back door, I guess he is leaving for another 3 months or so - "here's your hat, what's your hurry, "don't let the door hit U on your way out" --
Good Old Hymns of the Church, she was playing "Amazing Grace" in the kitchen.
Lord Bless

Well anonymous...He left my place about a weel ago to make his rounds to the different Christians and when he completes that circle and comes calling again, I won't slam the door in his face because the door won't be opened to begin with!!!...Love Terry

PS..If that guy is visiting your place now just keep quoting John 3:16 and he will leave and that right quickly!

Well I guess you need to know that He not only trys to get your attention and try to take controll up there where ya'll at, but He is been real busy down here in Georgia to.
He knows just about every friday or saturday that I am studying my Sunday School lesson for Sunday Morning and He tries every thing He can to distract me ?
He is forever making me fall down and bruising my bones, and if He don't succeed then He makes my blood sugar get out of whack and He causes my neighbors to stay up late making me stay up late because of the noise ?

But my Christain Friends my Jesus has yet to fail in helping me feel good on Sunday Morning so I can go and Worship Him and have Fellowship with His People ?

I'm Grateful to know He Has Enough Love For All !

Blessings.
Ron.

Here’s a little funny for you…maybe you could even call it prophetic.

We’ve prayed for years for my grandparents’ salvation. They are at our house and vice versa, quite often, as was the case this afternoon/evening. My dad read the evening Bible chapter, now we are in Proverbs, and we each recited a verse from what he read. I went last (we go in age order), and said, “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life. And the one who wins souls is wise.” Apparently my parents like that verse, and each said a hearty, “Amen!” My grandfather as dozing at his seat on the couch, and waking abruptly and echoed, “Amen!” Then he realized that he had not dozed while we were praying or anything, so he looked about a little surprised. My mother picked up the book we are reading in the evening (Secret Believers, by Brother Andrew---excellent read!), and he went back to napping. Nobody heard him except for my sister and I who were sitting beside him, and we could not suppress a little giggle…poor man, he had no idea what he was “amen”-ing, as he hardly knows any English!

So, we keep praying for their salvation!

God bless you,
LPP

Hi Heb -- thats a cute story - and the fact the grandparents come over so frequently , they must not be far from the Kingdom of God -

We know what a good witness your family is -- so God is at Work in their lives , of no doubt about that

PT, you know what the toughest challenge my parents have had with being a witness to them? They come over so often, it is hard to see them as "visitors" so sibings may have altercations at the table or elsewhere as normal, and forget they are supposed to be a Chrsitian example, and that is myself included. I got mad today with my sister at the table for such a silly reason (hindsight!), and what do you think they thought of me?!?! I must do better, for sure.

You know, I like this new Pal who comments, but I do wish they'd tell us their name, or come up with one ...oh, did you ever wonder how I came up with mine? I wrote the Pilgrim, and enclosed a scripture card. On the back it said, "To"and "From". Wen I want to remain anon., I fill in the From, with a scripture reference. I thought an appropriate one would be Hebrews 11:1. The few times I commented on Scribblings, I tried different names, like one of my many pen-name initials, or the fish sign...which is another pen name of mine, but I stopped using at after I found THE fish ;) Then, I settled on the name I now have, and since Mrs. Shirkie convinced me it was a good one, I kept it!

How did you come up with yours? My sister always jokes that you are never passing through, you are always here ;) I know, you are meaning this earth, but since you are alway on Pals, this is our little joke ;)

God bless you,
LPP

Heb - for one thing - being "normal" in your home is the best witness U can have for your grandfolks -- some people think that being Christian , we live on a holy mountain and halos follow us around - They see Christ in U kids and there is no doubt about it -- besides , not by might nor by power or by the will of man but BY HIS SPIRIT they will be convicted and won over to CHRIST -
so far as my name -- I never meant to stay in Pilgrim Pals, I found it and thought at the most a few days I would stay , nver once thought of staying and almost a couple of times thought of "moving on" YOUR A BLESSING LIL PILGRM PAL

I am always afraid I will have to move on...but even if I do, I will NEVER stop praying for Pals. I still haven't told my dad, which makes me feel guilty about 50 times a day (whenever I think or talk of Pals)...we just haven't had any time alone! We used to walk in the evening together, but with his foot as it is, a walk may consist of walking my gandparents home (just over 5 min). I don't get to go for drives wth him like I did when he was laid-off of work for those years...oh, I must just rest in God, it will all be in His perfect timing, right? Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for Him...oh, speaking of that (it just reminded me of my old friend) When is YOUR birthday in October??? My grandma's in the 3rd, and my childhood best friend's is the 23rd (I always associate that verse with his family...) PLEASE, do TELL us about WHEN it is, or we will just select a day for you ;)

Hmmm, me thinks if an October birthday isn't announced then EVERY day we will have to wish you a Happy Birthday and make a HUGE fuss over you, Passing Thru! And, I guess LPP too! Just think of the time that would take away from our time of praying, encouraging, and uplifting one another.

Oh, I know, we would be uplifting you EVERY day but others might need lifting up too!

HAVE A GREAT DAY

the only way we can understand when others host this unwelcome visitor, is if we have entertained him ourselves ... but i'm not opening the sofa couch for him, and no offering of coffee and sandwiches ... now that i've experienced his sliminess, time to sing hymns like Bob and set my face towards the SON!

Yes Saija -- he and his friends are UN-WELCOMED , Lukewarm, Self, False Humility, Religiosity, these are just some of his family -- they have relatives in every city

Pilgrim Pals said...

I do believe his relatives are even in the rural areas as well as the towns and cities. Wherever there is an abode which has a person in it, they seem to clamor at the door wanting to be let in. AGH! In the Name of Jesus Christ, GO AWAY!!!

p.s. They even stay awake all night clamoring to be let in! :(

Just you wait Passing-thru!!
My Felisol will find out.
She ALWAYS does and then she will spill the beans to Hebrews and THAT little birdie will tell the whole world..!!!

I don't think that that busy Lauren-mary will have time to read these comments so let me tell you right now that "Beautiful Smile's" birthday is September 16.
Let's give her a surprise Pilgrim Pal Birthday party, eh?
